Marketing Assistant

What do you do in the business?

I work in the Marketing Team as a Marketing Assistant, having joined the business in April 2025. In my role, I manage our social media platforms — from brainstorming creative ideas and creating monthly content plans to designing graphics and filming and editing video content. I also manage our daily Meta leads for online courses and support the sales team by creating physical marketing materials for events and exhibitions.

One of the most recent projects I’ve been involved in is the rollout of our new website, which the team has been developing over the past few months. This project has allowed me to learn new skills, take on new challenges, and contribute my own ideas and feedback throughout the process. Although I’ve only been here for six months, I’ve already gained valuable experience across many areas of marketing. From digital content creation to website support, every day has been an opportunity to grow and learn.

From day one, my team made me feel welcome and supported. I’ve always felt listened to and truly part of the team, which has made my experience incredibly positive.

What’s your background?

I graduated from university in 2024 with a degree in Marketing. During my studies, I completed a placement year at a law firm, where I worked as a Marketing Executive supporting the Brand Manager. This experience gave me valuable insight into the professional world of marketing.

After graduating, I faced the challenge of breaking into the industry. I applied for more than a hundred roles and, although I often received positive feedback and was told I was a strong candidate, many employers chose applicants with more experience. It was frustrating, especially after working so hard during university to gain practical experience. But the experience taught me resilience and perseverance. It also strengthened my interview skills — both in person and online — which proved incredibly valuable when I eventually interviewed for my role at CT Skills.

In the ten months between graduating and starting my marketing career, I worked as a Merchandise Assistant at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham. This role allowed me to develop strong customer service and teamwork skills, along with the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Looking back, every challenge and experience during that time helped prepare me for where I am now.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve given or received?

The best advice I would give to anyone starting their career is: don’t give up. If it takes a few extra steps to get to where you want to be, that doesn’t mean you’ve failed — you’re still so young, and you don’t need to have everything figured out yet. Don’t be afraid to be bold and make mistakes. Everything happens for a reason.
